Atomic-Force-microscope-2.jpg
The 'target' stage of an Ultra-high atomic force microscope in the nanotechnology department at Leicester University, UK. The microscope operates under a vacuum equivalent to many orders of magnitude (1 x 10-11) less than the atmosphere of the moon. It is currently being used to study the Casimir Force, which is an important limitation on the effectiveness of nano-machines.
